The NSW Government has today published the Tech Central Economic Development Strategy.

Urbis worked alongside Investment NSW and Tech Central stakeholders to identify opportunities to convert Sydney's cluster of high-performing industries and institutions into a world-class, integrated innovation ecosystem.

The state government committed $38.5 million in the 2025–26 Budget to Tech Central, as part of nearly $80 million in funding to deliver the Innovation Blueprint 2035.

The strategy integrates housing, creative industries, and the visitor and 24-hour economies so the government, industry and local community can help this world-class innovation precinct in central Sydney reach its full economic potential.

The strategy outlines a plan to achieve:

  • Sustainable leadership;
  • Growing the Tech Central economy;
  • Attracting and fostering leading talent; and
  • Creating a vibrant and welcoming destination.

This will help the district become a leading place to live, work and play—all key ingredients in continuing to attract and retain world leading innovative businesses.

Tech Central is a six square kilometre precinct bordered by Haymarket, Camperdown, and South Eveleigh and has the highest concentration of technology businesses anywhere in Australia. It is Australia's largest and most significant innovation district, supporting a $42 billion economy and 100,000 workers.

Urbis has worked on multiple place-based economic strategies.
